Mecca: Following her father’s footsteps, who was a soldier, Mona joined the Saudi Women Army. This time Mona is also there to help Hajj pilgrims in the holy city. From April, a large number of women soldiers were deployed to provide security and services to pilgrims arriving in Mecca and Madinah.

Mona wears a military uniform, a waist-length jacket, loose trousers, and a black beret over a hair-covering veil around the Grand Mosque in Makkah. “the Grand Mosque in Mecca, the holy place where we are standing here, I was trying to complete late father’s journey.” Mona told Reuters news agency.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is implementing social and economic reforms to modernize the country from an orthodox Islamic state and attract foreign investment through diversification. As part of the Vision 2030 reform, Saudi Arabia lifted the ban on women driving and allowed older women to travel without parental permission.

Samar, another women soldier was tasked with monitoring the pilgrims around Kobe. After studying psychology, Samar says she joined the military with the support of his family. “This is a great achievement for us, and it is a great honor to be a part of the service of religion, the country, and God’s guests,” said Samar.
