The print was created by the acclaimed Japanese ukiyo-e artist Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). It is part of his print series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji". The scene depicts a turbulent sea below the Satta Pass, a famous scenic overlook along the Tōkaidō road, with Mount Fuji visible in the background. The work is considered a tribute to Hokusai's iconic "The Great Wave off Kanagawa".
