Notations of Herman Hertzberger
This is a collection of sketches by Herman Hertzberger, a master of modern and contemporary architecture in the Netherlands.
It is an old book published in the Netherlands in 1998. It is entirely in English. I believe it is quite difficult to obtain now.
It contains a large number of sketches that Hertzberger kept for 30 years, with explanations.
It is a small book, approximately 12.5 cm x 17 cm, but it is a thick book with 208 pages. Most of it is filled with Hertzberger's sketches and explanations (in English).
In addition, the end of the book contains many photographs of the actual works and models of the architectural works introduced in the sketches.
The product was purchased new immediately after publication and has been stored. It is an old book, but it has been carefully stored, so I think the condition is quite good.
There are slight scuffs on the corners of the exterior, but no other noticeable damage or stains. The interior is also in good condition, with no writing or underlining.
The following is a Google translation of the introduction on the back cover:
"Architect Herman Hertzberger (born 1932) has carried notebooks for many years to record his impressions and thoughts. These accumulated notebooks contain interesting analyses of buildings, landscape sketches, drawings, and partial solutions to ongoing projects, as well as records of observations of objects, travel records, and meeting notes. Herman van Bergeijk and Deborah Hauptmann have selected a number of sketches from these notebooks to show how the architect's ideas evolved. The authors describe the role that sketches play in the design process and relate them to Hertzberger's architectural works. They also explain the importance of drawing as a way of formulating and refining ideas about architecture in general.
The selected drawings and the authors' essays provide excellent insights into the wide range of themes and interests in Hertzberger's work."
Please consider this as a used book that has been in someone's hands once.
