K Sudhakaran Appointed as KPCC President
About 70 percent of the main party leaders in Kerala had supported K Sudhakaran
New Delhi: Weeks after defeat in the general election, Congress named Senior Leader K Sudhakaran MP as the new chairman of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Tuesday, party sources said.
The party’s high command elected the 73-year-old leader after days of talks in the state and in New Delhi to succeed Mullappally Ramachandran in the top post. He is currently representing the Kannur constituency in Lok Sabha for the second time and has also been member of Legislative Assembly for four times.
AICC General Secretary Tariq Anwar, who was responsible for Kerala affairs of Congress Party, had reported to Sonia Gandhi about the necessary changes at the highest level. About 70 percent of the main party leaders in Kerala had supported K Sudhakaran.
By electing K Sudhakaran, the All India Congress Committee (AICC) has once again made it clear that it is no longer ready to deal with the factional dispute between Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala. But it was the same logic behind picking VM Sudheeran and Mullappally, the two previous presidents. Both experiments failed when fractionalism flourished.
